I agree with Jo's comment above. Stitch one X at a time and try different directions. I like to stitch diagonally instead of in rows. I would have said f...DMC 115 is my favourite too!! I would have said for embroidery the best way is to stitch each stitch next to each other rather than a double running stitch. For cross stitch it is also best to stitch each stitch individually rather than do a whole row of /// then a row of \\\ which is my usual method. Different effects can be achieved by stitching in other ways, it depends on the effect you want.
