Robbie Burns .....

January 25 is Robbie Burns Day and Scots around the world celebrate one way or another....
Since it's not a Scots' community where we presently live our celebration will be a quiet one.  ^^

This is the genuine McLaren Tartan (my maiden name is McLaren) along with the kilt pins my daughter and I used a long time ago.

This is our Clan Crest that I talked about here.

I made a table mat with 3" squares.  The backing and binding are all one piece  and that was interesting to do ....  I quite like how it worked out and have used the same method a few more times since.  I used perle cotton  ... I love doing the stem stitch in perle cotton... I coffee stained it - my hubby chuckled when he looked at it.  ^^

I made a new pincushion, too, not that I needed another one. ^^  My  bowl of pincushions runneth over but they're fun to make.  The design for this one can be found here.  It's felt appliqued to a scrap of corduroy recycled from an old shirt.

We've not got any Scottish blood in us that we know of but we are going to be celebrating Burn's night with my brother in law and his girlfriend tomorrow.

I like your clan crest.

Love your stitching x

Beautiful crest! I love the fabric you used for the table mat. The pincushion is great. I really need to make myself one. :-)

The table mat looks nice!
It was a great idea to staine it with coffee! :o)

Love your creations, Kate!!! My father's lineage is Scottish. Your stem stitch is lovely! One can never have too many pincushions! I love using thrifted and reinvented materials! ;)

What a fun post with so many interesting things-- I love Scottish things and love the sayings and the table mat and pin cushion-- so cute and what a good idea to recycle that corduroy.

I'm not Scottish, Kate, but my husband's ancestors certainly were :) So, that means my kids have Scottish blood flowing through their veins, too!

Love seeing your crest and the new table mat is lovely. Thanks for the link to the cute pincushion, too :)

Fun pincushion and little mat. My son is very into his Scots heritage (I stuck more with the Irish side!) and he has a closet full of kilts. I think kilt pins might be his only jewelry. Or cloak pins. LOL
