If life gives you lemons make lemonade, right? Only it wasn't life that supplied the lemons but a poor choice of fabric. You see, I made these HSTs for a specific project but they looked ghastly for it. Not wanting to waste them I kept fiddling with them until I finally came up with something that I liked and this is it - a candle mat/mini quilt/tray cloth (gotta love versatility) ...... ^^
For the star centre I found a Scandinavian design here
that was just perfect.

Just in case you're wondering ..... we've had fabulously warm, sunny weather for several days - it's been so nice to be outdoors without a jacket! We even went out for a picnic lunch and watched the hundreds of snow geese, Canada geese, ducks, and Tundra swans along the river that's over it's banks.
Every end is a new beginning!

Wow, Kate! It looks like you were able to salvage your HSTs and use them for a cool candle mat/mug rug. Way to go! Enjoy your weekend!
That looks great now! Perfect solution.
That is a fun piece to make with your leftovers.

Fabulous. Great solution to your HST's. Hugs,xx
And then today hit with the rain! Or at least it did here, but I did enjoy those sunny, mild days. It seems like it jumped from the 60s straight into the 80s! Love your block. That embroidery just makes it perfect.
that's really cute!
I get the impression everyone is patchworking at the moment lol
I like these fabrics! And the centre stitching is so cute!
Oh, so lovely, this little mini tray cloth. You definitely know how to use up your pieces of fabric in a very beautiful way.
Such a fun little project! I love the little flower in the middle.
SO pretty... love the embroidery!
Great use of your leftover bits, pretty with the handstitched flower.
It turned out perfect. Love the little embroidery in the center.
well the mat is just adorable! :)
Very cute! Love the title - by the babbling brook. Reminds me of summers in Vermont as a kid.
Looks so pretty and certainly will come in handy. Please send some warm dry weather this way, it still feels like winter 😳
Oh, I LOVE the colors in this sweet finish, Kate--well done in every aspect :)
What a sight all those birds must have been, Kate! Great use of the HSTs & stitchery
