WIP, UFO or vintage ......

Years ago I always used to sign and date my x-stitch pieces but learned that dating them wasn't always such a good idea.  I stitched this one way back in 1990 - that's  .... well, you can do the math!  It was a kit that I received as a gift and I had no idea how I wanted to finish it so I rolled it up in tissue and set it aside.  After a few long distance moves I've been sorting and downsizing my 'junque' and in doing so I came across it - no longer rolled but totally flattened and badly creased  ..... at least now I know what I did with it.  I decided to make it into a cushion cover and with the assistance of my colour coordinator (the man of the house)  we auditioned several fabrics and this is what we came up with.  We were both pleased with how it turned out.

As I mentioned the stitched piece was badly creased so I used a wee bit of persuasion and look what happened .....  Yep, the red in 'Greetings' ran - curious that only the thread in that one spot ran.  Well, it is what it is.

I made an envelope opening, my favourite, for the back from sheeting and stitched the edges of the opening with a stitch that looks like snowflakes, which is hard to see in the photo.

I'm not sure if this still qualifies as a WIP, UFO or
 is it already 'vintage'?

Nice that you rescued an older piece, Kate--you and your "color coordinator" did a great job :) That would never happen in my house as my husband is color blind!! He wouldn't know a red from a blue from a purple!! That little snowflake edging stitch is so cute, too!

Whatever it's classed as it's beautiful and so perfect for this time of year.

It's lovely! Since I don't know the difference between a WIP and a UFO I would call it vintage.

In a million years I'd have never noticed the "ran" part if you had not said so and then I had to look for it.
Gorgeous...
Long ago I did one little cross stitch thing and that was enough for me...gosh is it hard and does it ever require patience...I appreciate the work involved whenever I see one! :)

and what a beautiful one !
once again Hubby chose the perfect fabric and this piece is absolutely sweet
I also finished this year a piece I started about 15 years ago !! (the bunnies for Anna)
the fabric was a bit 'yellow' :-/
but finally the pouch I made was a success =D
I have to try an envelope opening a day :)
big big hugs

Oh Kate - to me it's just gorgeous! well done! i have a few complete cross stitches that i have no idea of what to do with them, but i don't feel so bad now! I think dating your work is a good idea - i do it - but perhaps do it when you are as close to completion of project as possible?!
