variegated floss

Is there a correct way to use variegated floss?  I've never been able to find any information on it and  in my ignorance  just keep stitching with it.  My favourite one is DMC 115 that I  used for these ornies/tags. For the outer stitching I used pearl cotton and backed them with red ticking.

Just for the fun of it, if you're leaving a comment tell me which one  you like best .... my favourite is the prim Charlie Brown Christmas tree (lower left).

I'm linked up to The Needle and Thread Network.

DMC 115 is my favourite too!! I would have said for embroidery the best way is to stitch each stitch next to each other rather than a double running stitch. For cross stitch it is also best to stitch each stitch individually rather than do a whole row of /// then a row of \\\ which is my usual method. Different effects can be achieved by stitching in other ways, it depends on the effect you want. If you have a whole area to fill, you can stitch in horizontal or vertical rows, or diagonally or even stitch the outside row and spiral inwards (or vice versa).

My favourite ornie is the present one.

I have never tried variegated floss so I can't give any tips but looks like you are doing OK with it. Very nice stitching on the ornaments. My fav is The Charlie Brown tree too.

I must admit I only used 1 time variegated threads...and just like you had no idea of how proceeding...

I love stitching with DMC 115 and have used it on several projects! I agree with Jo's comment above. Stitch one X at a time and try different directions. I like to stitch diagonally instead of in rows. My favorite is the Christmas tree in the center.

Very pretty work Kate! I thing the Charlie Brown tree is my favorite as well. I have used variegated threads in cross stitching and agree with Jo's comment. Your work is lovely, thanks for sharing!

my favourite is the tree in the middle ^^
and for variagated - yes, usually one stitch at a time if best so the colour changes gradually as you stitch

Wonderful stitching, difficult to chose a favorite one. As I've never been able to get my hands on variegated floss I learned quite a bit here!
