fallen behind ....

Usually during the summer at the cabin  I stitch some Christmas cards but not this year for some reason.  Thus far I've stitched only one and I stitched it last week at home - I've really fallen behind.
This is part of a design, Snowbirds, by Country Cottage Needleworks using colours appropriate for the recipient ...

The heat wave lasted one enjoyable week and was followed by some rather cool temperatures - no killing frost yet which is good news - there is snow to the west of us but none in our forecast - also good news.

falling leaves ....

We've just had a week of the warmest weather of the summer season - go figure!  One day last week our community was the hot spot in Canada - it was a gorgeous summer day.  Alas, today is supposed to be the last of the warm weather.  The plant life knows it's the end of summer and have put on their colourful coats.  We took advantage of the good weather and spent the weekend at the cabin - sadly we closed it up before returning to town.

Here are some photos from around the cabin ....

fall is here ...

I enjoy the fall and would like it to linger - I love the colour, the fragrance, the coolness.

In town there was a plague of grasshoppers this summer  - they ate everything, even rhubarb leaves and apparently tomatoes as well - I'm glad I grew my tomatoes at the cabin - there are still quite a few grasshoppers around.  There was also an abundance of crickets in town - I've never seen so many nor such large ones.  Fortunately, at the cabin we had neither grasshoppers nor crickets - actually there were very few bugs of any sort - no doubt due to the extreme dry conditions - we didn't mind that there were no mosquitoes.  ^^

Now that the it rained it just keeps on - poor timing for anyone harvesting - the rain is soaking into the ground and none of it is bringing up the levels of the rivers and lakes.  At the cabin we have water some days and don't have it others so it's an interesting fall.

Here are a couple of Lizzie Kate designs I stitched this summer - the doggy one is backed with an animal print and a coffee print on the other ...

careful what you wish for or ....

In my previous post I mentioned that we'd had no rain at the cabin .... well, guess what - we received 1" on Monday!   Wow, we could almost hear the grass growing.  ^^  I'm not sure if I should say careful what you wish for or if I should have posted about the lack of rain sooner - the rain was desperately needed although it's too late in the season for the farmers and ranchers.

Here are some pix of the Morning Glory flowers that grew so well at the cabin in spite of very little moisture - towards the end of summer they had no leaves left but kept on blooming.  I am very fond of Morning Glories and remember my grandma growing them every year  My French daughter-in- law calls them Belle-de-Jour and I think that is a perfect name for them. ^^
