can't fix ...

One thing that I've learned during this virus pandemic is that you can't fix stupid!!  Doesn't matter what age group - there is a lot of stupid going around - I expected better of my age group - I'm naive ... I expected better of  most people.

masks ...

With so much talk about masks one might think we'd skipped to Halloween.   ^^
I made several face masks using 3 different patterns - one had a pocket for a filter and two were similar except that one was a 5 minute mask made with a serger - sadly, my serger is at the cabin - fortunately I had enough 1/4" elastic on hand - these are reversible (to white) and washable - I sanitized them before giving them away.   Of course,  I forgot to take a photo before giving most of them away  so here's all you get to see...

And yes, I know these do not and can not replace proper face masks and the recipients know this as well - if nothing else they are a souvenir of  COVID-19!
I gave the blue one to my next door neighbour who is elderly - she was thrilled to have it and said she'll be wearing it with pride the next time she goes to the bank - that made my day!!! ♥

This is the link to the 5 minute serged mask.  Here is the  other link.

green thumb ...

These are compact plants (red robin tomato) and cucumber that are meant to be grown indoors during the off season.  One of our neighbours has the greenest of green thumbs - grew several of these and shared them with whoever wanted one - isn't she a sweetie.  The tomato has lots of flowers and three tomatoes -  the cuke has that long vine with lots of flowers and two cucumbers - it's exciting just having the plants even if they don't give us fresh fruit.   ^^

goose hunting ...

We'd heard on the news that the geese were back - a sure sign of spring.  So we decided to check it out and headed up to the Mossey River which is the first river we cross on the way to the cabin.  There were no geese there at the time - the good news is that the river is opening!!

Here's a photo - the other side of the bridge has more open water but I blurred the photo - perhaps in my excitement.  ^^  I know, it looks cold and wintery - it was a mild, sunny day with a cold wind - there were myriad animal tracks.

lost ...

Spring seems to have gotten lost this year - it's one of my favourite seasons - the other being Fall.  The days are longer, the sun is warmer, the crows are courting, the snow is disappearing, the air smells earthy  ... what's not to like.

something different ...

These are something new that I tried.  The top one was my prototype - the second one was given to a friend.  I used drop cloth for both - made the second one shorter because it looked better - the roses are also made from dropcloth - flat lace is needed for these and I have a shortage of flat lace.  To add pearls or not - I showed roses with and without pearls to my fella and he preferred the pearls so I went with that.

I talked to a computer tech guy the other day and he said quite likely my laptop is fixable - Windows updates have been causing lots of problems so here's hoping .....

Recently I've been reading that some bloggers are discouraged by so few comments that they're getting.  Personally I don't mind that there are fewer comments as long as I'm getting views.  Besides which if I had too many comments I'm not sure I'd be able to reply to all and I do like to reply.

the weekend ...

On Saturday morning my laptop crashed - I've been expecting this  - every time Windows added another update this year it caused problems - finally it ended with a death.  Fortunately, I have a desktop PC that I can use - am undecided whether or not to replace the laptop.  Thank goodness I had done a back-up up on February 29 so I've only lost a week of files - whew.  ^^

I don't like DST - for several years we lived in an area that stayed on CST year around - that was enjoyable.

A fox paid us a visit early Saturday morning - such a treat to see him!

We did our grocery shopping on the weekend - t. paper was on the list - it made me chuckle that we may have looked like we'd joined the t. paper mass hysteria!  ^^

I made my own hand sanitizer - you need a minimum of 60% alcohol - I added lavender and tea tree essential oils, both are anti-bacterial - along with some glycerin to prevent the alcohol from drying out our skin.

This was another good read!  It's set in Dublin with lots of interesting characters.

March already ...

Shamrock by Danybrod
Fresh Herbs by Ele

The shamrock and lily of the valley was stitched on ecru aida which is why the flowers are pink - there is pink lily of the valley so I didn't stray too far off course.  I love the fragrance of lily of the valley and when I was a teenager there was a cologne 'muguet de bois'  that I loved!

The fresh herbs took me as long to do the finish as it did to stitch - go figure.  ^^

The green mice are pincushions by Bustle and Sew - I've never used them for pincushions - I've made several mice in assorted designs, colours and fabrics for a mouse collection - some are big, some are tiny - they look cute in a basket.  ^^

March came in like a lion which is good news - I always prefer that it go out like a lamb so here's hoping.  We've started our third month of making meals from what's on hand - we're trying to eat down (??) the freezer and pantry - with success but still a ways to go.  When we shop we buy the perishables and whatever we no longer have on hand but absolutely need.  For years we lived in the boonies and were a long way from a grocery store so we learned to stock up and it's not been easy to break the habit but we're trying - all part of our simplifying/minimalizing efforts.

We had some fresh snow last evening and everything is sparkly and fresh looking this morning - with a forecast of 4C and sunshine I daresay the grass will be reappearing shortly (and hopefully).
